How to Send EPUB to Kindle Without a Cable

A focused guide for sending DRM-free EPUB files to Kindle over Wi-Fi with Bookify, without USB, email setup, or Amazon cloud upload.

Last updated:

EPUB is one of the most common ebook formats, but getting an EPUB onto Kindle can still feel harder than it should. Amazon Send to Kindle works well when you want cloud sync, but it also requires an Amazon account, an upload step, and Amazon processing. USB transfer is reliable, but it means finding a cable and using a computer.

Bookify is useful when your goal is simpler: send one DRM-free EPUB to one Kindle over local Wi-Fi.

When Bookify Is the Right EPUB to Kindle Method

Use Bookify when:

  • The EPUB is DRM-free
  • You want to transfer from iPhone, iPad, or Mac
  • Your Kindle and Apple device are on the same Wi-Fi network
  • Your Kindle can open its built-in browser
  • You do not need Amazon cloud sync or reading-position sync

This is a local sideloading workflow. The ebook stays on your devices and local network during transfer instead of being uploaded to Amazon first.

EPUB to Kindle: Bookify vs. Amazon Send to Kindle

Method Best for Needs Amazon account Uses cloud upload Works from iPhone/iPad
Bookify Fast private transfer to one Kindle No No Yes
Amazon Send to Kindle Cloud sync across Kindle devices and apps Yes Yes Yes
USB transfer Manual copy from a computer No No No, requires a computer

If you mainly want a book on one Kindle now, Bookify removes several steps. If you want the same document to appear across multiple Kindle apps and devices, Amazon's cloud workflow is still the better fit.

How to Send EPUB to Kindle with Bookify

  1. Save the EPUB to Files, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or another app that can share files.
  2. Share the EPUB to Bookify, or import it from inside Bookify.
  3. Check the cover, title, and author. Edit them if the downloaded file has messy metadata.
  4. Optionally embed a custom TTF or OTF font.
  5. Make sure the Kindle and your iPhone, iPad, or Mac are on the same Wi-Fi.
  6. Tap Transfer in Bookify.
  7. Open the local address shown by Bookify in the Kindle browser.
  8. Download the book from the browser page.

The Kindle does the final download itself, so there is no USB cable and no email attachment to configure.

What Makes a Good EPUB Transfer

Before sending, check three things:

  • DRM: Bookify is for DRM-free files. It does not remove DRM.
  • Metadata: Many downloaded EPUB files have inconsistent titles, authors, or covers. Cleaning them before transfer makes the Kindle library easier to browse.
  • Network: Local transfer requires both devices to see each other on the same network. Guest Wi-Fi and some mesh router settings can block local device discovery.

Troubleshooting EPUB to Kindle

If the Kindle cannot open the transfer page:

  • Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Turn off VPN or private relay tools temporarily if they change local network routing.
  • Avoid guest Wi-Fi networks that isolate devices.
  • Keep Bookify open while downloading.
  • Try another browser-capable Kindle or use USB if the Kindle browser is unavailable.

Bookify does not depend on Amazon Send to Kindle, but it does depend on the Kindle being able to download a local file from the browser.

When Not to Use Bookify

Bookify is not the best choice if:

  • You want reading progress synced through Amazon
  • You want the file stored in Amazon's personal document library
  • Your Kindle browser cannot open local addresses
  • The ebook is DRM-protected

In those cases, use Amazon Send to Kindle, the Kindle app, or USB transfer depending on the exact limitation.
